Essaouira, Morocco
So…There have obviously been some gaps in the travelogue, to put it mildly. But you’ll have that with a Luddite like myself.
After a little detour from Egypt through Petra, I entered the Kingdom of Morocco back in early February to consummate the origin story of this grand adventure. I finally met up with my oldest grade school friend in Imsouane for the surf adventure we’d been kicking around planning since early 2020. That didn’t exactly play out as intended, but all’s well that ends well as they say.
It’s pretty amazing to say I took a little detour to get here. Petra isn’t exactly a novel roadside attraction one just pulls off the highway to have a look at like the biggest wheel of cheese or a giant Babe the Blue Ox. But based on the rate I’ve been chronically things, this might be the extent of the coverage it gets…It was Awesome and I can’t believe I even considered not going! I’ve got more pictures than I know what to do with, literally gigs on gigs. But I still haven’t figured out the easiest way to get them from my android to my iPad. You’d think after seven months on the road I’d have put a few minutes into solving that one. It does consistently get transferred from to-do list to to-do list, so rest assured at some point there’ll be more than a header to these posts; one would hope.
Currently I’m posted up at Café Safa just outside a little UNESCO Heritage site in Essaouira, Morocco. I didn’t expect to stick around here as long as I have and will continue to do so, but I’m thoroughly enjoying the easy pace and coastal winds on the Atlantic coast. I found an awesome place a few blocks outside of the Medina and have wandered about and gotten lost almost enough times to know where the hell I’m going…almost. I’m a big fan of the car free zone of the Medina and there are more shops, cafés and restaurants to keep me curious and exploring than I could visit in a year. Plus, the neighborhood where I scored a palatial pad is seasoned with plenty of street food, bakeries and cafés to keep me overstuffed and caffeinated.
Well, Just wanted to pop my head up and say hey to all my dedicated fans.
Congrats for making it to Morocco! Less than 4 years is not bad. It took me 5 to get to Bali!
